What I did today in the garden

As someone who is disabled, having a bit of plant chores this morning was a great thing to wake up to. Decided to leave the cilantro alone. It’s probably too young to transplant still. I don’t want another Chamomile situation to play out. Yes, I failed my chamomile. I thinned some tomatoes, planted mint cuttings and started dill and parsley seeds.

This gardening journey has been eye opening. Digging in the dirt did more than grow herbs, it grounded me. 🌱💚 Spending time with my plants helped me manage anxiety, heal from burnout, and reconnect with the present moment. Whether it’s watering seedlings or watching new leaves unfurl, gardening has become my daily mindfulness ritual. 🍃🪴

If you’re struggling with your mental health, start with one plant. I started with a snake plant. Healing doesn’t have to be loud; sometimes it grows slowly, quietly…like roots in the dark.

What did you do in your garden today?

... Read moreGardening is not only a productive hobby but also a powerful tool for enhancing mental health and emotional well-being. Activities such as thinning tomatoes and starting seeds of herbs like dill and parsley encourage mindfulness by engaging the senses and focusing attention on growth cycles. In this gardening journey, practical techniques such as pruning, thinning, and planting mint cuttings help prevent common problems like root rot — techniques supported by traditional remedies such as the use of cinnamon, known for its antifungal properties to protect plant roots. Cilantro, a delicate herb, requires special care during transplanting. Waiting until seedlings are stronger before moving them helps avoid setbacks, as seen in the common mistake of premature transplanting that can stunt growth. This care parallels the personal healing process, where patience and gentle nurturing are key. For individuals managing anxiety and burnout, gardening’s grounding effects come from physically connecting with the earth, observing natural progress, and establishing a daily routine. Even a single plant, like a resilient snake plant, can serve as a symbolic and therapeutic starting point for cultivating mindfulness and emotional resilience. Embracing gardening as a healing ritual supports mental health awareness, encouraging others to engage with nature as a form of therapy, building healthy habits, and rediscovering calm in everyday life.
