How to propagate your ZZ plant (3 ways!)

ZZ plants might look slow-growing, but once you learn how to multiply them, you’ll never buy another one again. You can do it three ways:

✨ 1. Leaf Propagation (The Patient Way)

• Gently pluck a healthy leaf close to the stem.

• Let the end callous for a day or two.

• Place it in moist, well-draining soil (or perlite + water mix) or in water. “Ripped” part in water.

• Keep humidity high…roots + tiny rhizomes form in 2–3 months.

🪴 2. Stem Cutting (The Reliable Way)

• Cut a full stem with 2–3 leaves attached.

• Pop it in water, making sure at least one node stays submerged.

• Change water weekly or if it start becoming cloudy. Once roots reach 1–2 inches, plant in soil.

• This method roots faster…around 4–6 weeks.

🌱 3. Division (The Fastest Way)

• Remove your ZZ from the pot and gently separate the rhizomes (the potato-like bulbs).

• Replant each section in fresh mix…water lightly, don’t drown.

• This gives you an instant full-sized clone!

💧 Pro tip: ZZs thrive on neglect. After propagating, resist overwatering. It’s a classic ZZ unaliver.

Do you have ZZ too? Have you tried propagating it?
