My French Bulldog's 'gremlin mode' isn't just for laughs, it's actually a pretty common (and hilarious!) thing for these little characters. As you can see from my photo, he certainly knows how to pull a face! Sometimes, when I catch him with that mischievous glint in his eye, or when he's just woken up from a deep nap, his lips get caught, revealing those tiny teeth, and his eyes roll back just a bit. It’s exactly like the image I shared – that funny expression is classic! It’s what makes them so unique and lovable, even when they’re being a bit naughty, like trying to snack on something they shouldn't! But why do some dogs look like little gremlins? For French Bulldogs, it's often due to their unique brachycephalic (short-nosed) facial structure. Their loose skin, prominent eyes, and expressive mouths can easily create those comical, almost monster-like expressions. It's definitely not a specific 'gremlin dog breed' per se, but rather a charming characteristic of breeds with similar features that makes them so endearing. Beyond Frenchies, I've noticed other breeds that often get dubbed 'gremlin dogs' by their owners. Pugs, with their wrinkled faces and sometimes buggy eyes, can definitely pull off the look. Boston Terriers, with their wide-set eyes and cheeky grins, also make excellent candidates for a 'gremlin dog' title. Even some Chihuahuas, with their tiny bodies and surprisingly fierce expressions, can sometimes give off serious gremlin vibes. It’s all about those unique facial quirks that make us smile and remind us of those mischievous movie creatures. Dealing with a dog who likes to eat things they shouldn't, as my little gremlin often does, can be a challenge! My main approach is prevention – keeping tempting items out of reach and making sure the house is generally 'pup-proofed.' But when he does manage to snag something, a firm 'leave it' and a quick trade for a high-value treat usually works wonders. It’s a constant battle of wits with these smart little creatures! Sometimes, their 'gremlin' look is just a sign they're about to embark on a new adventure of mischief, so it’s always good to be one step ahead.
