Not Letting Anxiety Control My Life

For the past 3 years I have developed a mild case of agoraphobia and stayed home, canceled plans due to my anxiety. I miss the person I was. Adventurous, social butterfly and just enjoying the moment. These are some things that have been helping me gain control of my life again:

1. Taking deep breaths and living in the moment. When I notice that I’m worrying about the past or future, I do things that bring me back to the present by talking with my kids, stepping outside and breathing the fresh air, and soaking in the sun.

2. Work through your anxiety. While you’re doing something and you get a bout of anxiety, take a deep breath, close your eyes and say you are ok. You ARE ok

3. Get outside of the house more. Go for walks, visit family/friends or go for a drive

4. Diet/vitamins: make sure you are getting your vitamins in and take care of any deficiencies. A good diet also helps with your gut health and that does affect your anxiety.

Journaling helps you get everything off your chest. Listening to music helps get you out of your head as well. Stay busy, do things you enjoy and surround yourself with people who are good for your soul #anxietyisnotminetoown #anxietyinsideout #anxietyisreal #anxietyhealingjourney #anxietyrecoveryjourney

... Read moreAnxiety and agoraphobia can severely limit daily life, affecting your ability to engage socially and enjoy new experiences. Understanding the connection between mental health and physical habits is crucial for recovery and regaining control. Mindfulness, such as taking deep breaths and grounding yourself in the present moment, helps manage overwhelming anxiety by focusing your awareness away from worries about the past or future. Engaging in simple activities like talking with loved ones, spending time outdoors, and soaking in natural sunlight not only calm your mind but also elevate mood through increased vitamin D levels. Working through anxiety episodes by acknowledging your feelings and affirming your safety can reduce panic intensity and build resilience over time. Regularly exposing yourself to outside environments—whether it's walking, visiting friends, or driving—gradually diminishes avoidance behaviors typical in agoraphobia. Nutrition plays a significant role; deficiencies in vitamins such as B-complex, magnesium, and vitamin D are linked to worsened anxiety symptoms. Promoting gut health through a balanced diet rich in probiotics supports neurotransmitter production that influences mood and emotional regulation. Journaling provides an outlet for processing thoughts and emotions, helping to unburden the mind, while music therapy can shift focus away from anxious rumination. Staying engaged with hobbies and positive social networks nurtures emotional well-being and fosters a support system. By integrating mindful breathing, outdoor activity, nutritional care, and emotional expression into daily routines, individuals can effectively reclaim their lives from anxiety and agoraphobia. These combined approaches help restore a sense of freedom and joy in everyday living, empowering you to reconnect with your true self and rediscover the adventurous spirit you cherish.
