Wiccan law isn’t witch law—different paths, differ

This comes up a lot in witchy and pagan spaces. The Threefold Law (sometimes called the Law of Three) is the idea that whatever energy you put out—good or bad—comes back to you three times over. Some witches embrace it, but others don’t. Here are the main reasons why some witches don’t believe in it:

🔮 Different Traditions

The Threefold Law is mostly tied to Wicca, especially modern Gardnerian or eclectic branches. Not all witches are Wiccan—some are folk witches, traditional witches, chaos magicians, or practitioners from other paths. They may not follow Wiccan-specific rules!

🌒 Personal Responsibility vs. Cosmic Law

Many witches believe in cause and effect (your actions have consequences), but not in a strict “times three” rule. They see it more as personal responsibility, psychology, or natural balance, rather than a mystical law.

⚡ Skepticism of “Punishment/Reward” Systems

Some see the Threefold Law as too similar to religious doctrines about divine punishment or karma. They prefer to believe in neutral energy—you send it out, it ripples, but the universe doesn’t keep score.

🌱 Different Belief in Energy Flow

For some, energy isn’t something that “returns” at all. Instead, it just moves and changes. They may believe spellwork affects the world, not necessarily the caster.

🕯️ Practical vs. Moral Frameworks

Witches outside of Wicca might prioritize what works over what’s “right” by Wiccan standards. They may still have ethics, but not based on the Threefold Law.

🖤 So, while the Threefold Law is a core belief for many Wiccans, it’s not universal across witchcraft. If someone does believe in it then we are still respectful of their right to believe in it but in the same instance those who don’t should be given the same respect..are you a believer or not?
