This might be the only cardio exercise where you and the “equipment” become one! In fact, it burns more calories than you do… Plus, it becomes your partner, waiting to run freely with you in the wild. Horses have a soul—something no machine can replace. Oh, just talking about it makes me miss it again. But since I live in the city, it’s not the right place for a horse, and I can’t give it the open grasslands it deserves.

If you get the chance, you’ve got to try it out in the grasslands—not in those track-bound riding arenas. Horses there are like us at work—so tired they’ve gone numb.

Riding actually burns more calories than I thought (about 400 per hour). It requires adjusting your breathing, constantly engaging your core, maintaining balance, and strengthening your legs and back. Compared to running, horseback riding is much gentler on the joints, which makes it perfect for people like me who are recovering from injuries but still need exercise! And the best part? You’ll feel the wind in your ears and see nothing but breathtaking views.
