I only started playing escape rooms a year ago, but I’ve already clocked more than 40 rooms across Singapore, JB, KL, Malacca and Tokyo. Each one offered something different but nothing prepared me for what I found in Guangzhou!

Out of all the games I’ve played, 幻觉游戏 (Illusion Game) now officially takes the crown! 👑

🕹️What’s the Story?

You’re invited by Dr. G to test a simulation pod called Illusion Eleven. You play a detective investigating a strange death but as the case unfolds, so does a bigger mystery. You’ll wonder if you’re still in the game or have you crossed into something deeper?

Think Black Mirror, but you’re the lead. One moment you’re in a futuristic cyberpunk world, the next you’re in an elegant European setting, stuck in a reality loop with no way out!

🕹️What Makes It Unmissable:

- Non-Horror, Still Intense:

I love how the creators skipped the horror genre and built a full sci-fi thriller instead. No jump scares, but full tension.

- Cinematic Experience:

Light, sound, and set transitions are stunning. They use high-quality speakers and effects, at many points, I genuinely felt like I was in a movie.

- Smooth Dimensional Shifts:

You stand in the same spot, and the entire scene transforms around you. We were going “Wah… Wah… Wah…” almost the whole time.

- Detailed World-Building:

From the plot to the props to even the shop’s pets or souvenirs, everything ties into the game, the same universe.

- Mechanical Excellence:

All the large-scale puzzles work smoothly. It’s not just functional, it’s satisfying.

- Hidden Easter Egg Quests:

Spot hidden tokens

(彩蛋) during the game and exchange them for “tik gam” surprise gifts after the game.

- Immersive Debrief:

Staff role-play through the recap and explain secret details and tributes behind certain scenes.

🕹️Why I Ended Up Playing Almost All Their Games

This one game was so impressive that I made it a point to visit both of the brand’s outlets nearby. The two shops even have pets that tie into the storyline. I’m not usually a “complete all games” person but this time I just had to.

We discovered Illusion Game through a respected escape room owner, whose own game is award-winning too. He said, “这个真的有惊艳到我。”

And after playing it ourselves, I completely agree 100%!!!

Tips:

- Don’t be fooled by the rundown look of the mall, the escape room itself is clean, beautifully decorated, and well-maintained.

- You can 拼场 (join strangers) if your group is under 4 pax.
