Frodo Waggins
We’ve brought in another furry family member! Frodo Waggins is an (now) 11 weeks old Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
I got him from a reputable breeder here in Maine who doesn’t doc her puppy’s tails (there’s no reason to for a family pet) and he’s the sweetest lil buddy! He hasn’t gone out and about much yet, because he still needs more shots (he goes for his next round this week)
He gets along great with all the other dogs in the house and they’ve been super tolerant of his shenanigans.
I did give him a bath today, which he was none too pleased about, though he did like the lick mat in between bouts of trying to escape the sink. The lick mat was less accepted when I introduced the blow drier. Not a fan. He had lots of angry opinions about the blow drier (but it’s starting to get heckin’ cold around here, and puppies need to go outside a lot) he survived (under protest) and accepted treats as compensation. I think I’m going to ask for a grooming table for Christmas…

Bringing home a new puppy, especially a Corgi like our sweet Frodo Waggins, is such an exciting journey! It's a mix of pure joy, endless cuddles, and a fair share of puppy antics, as you've already seen with Frodo's bath time adventures. If you're considering welcoming a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy into your life, there are a few things that have made our experience truly wonderful, and some tips I've picked up along the way. One of the first things you notice about Pembroke Welsh Corgis is their adorable appearance – those short legs, expressive faces, and often, a fluffy little butt! But it's their personality that truly shines. Frodo, even at just 11 weeks old, is already showing so much character. They're known for being intelligent, playful, and surprisingly energetic for their size. This means they thrive on mental stimulation and regular playtime. I've found that having plenty of toys and interactive games helps burn off some of that puppy energy! Speaking of energy, Corgis also love to be part of the family action. They bond very closely with their humans, and Frodo is no exception, always wanting to be near us. This makes early socialization so important. While Frodo is still getting his full round of shots before he can explore the big wide world, we're already working on introducing him to new sights, sounds, and gentle interactions within our home. The OCR images showing him sleeping peacefully or sitting with our other dogs like Lussa and Morwen perfectly capture these early, cozy moments of integration into our family pack. Having a secure, comfortable space, perhaps with his favorite blanket, helps him feel safe and settle in. Puppy care can be a learning curve! Frodo wasn't thrilled with his first bath, but treats and a lick mat made it manageable. For future baths, I’m definitely looking into a grooming table – it makes a huge difference for both you and your furry friend. Regular grooming, even just brushing, helps keep their double coat healthy and reduces shedding. And those early vet visits for vaccinations are crucial; it gives you peace of mind knowing your little one is protected. Introducing a new puppy to existing pets, as we did with Frodo and our other dogs, requires patience. It's been heartwarming to see how tolerant our older dogs have been with his 'shenanigans'. Supervised introductions, allowing them to sniff each other through a gate initially, and ensuring each dog has their own space helps. Rewarding calm interactions reinforces positive behavior. Living with Frodo Waggins has already brought so much laughter and love into our home. Every day is an adventure, and seeing him grow from a tiny pup with his little black collar and tag into a confident, happy Corgi is the best feeling.
