A reaction is driven by emotion.
A response is guided by wisdom.
When someone insults you:
Reaction: You immediately insult them back.
Response: You pause, think, and choose your words carefully.
When someone cuts you off in traffic:
Reaction: Yelling, honking, cursing, or trying to get even.
Response: Recognizing it was wrong, but refusing to let it control your behavior.
When someone hurts you:
Reaction: "I'll make them feel what I felt."
Response: "I'm hurt, but I'm going to let God direct my next step."
The difference is the pause.
A reaction says, "My feelings are in control."
A response says, "My feelings are real, but they are not my leader."
God never asked us to pretend anger doesn't exist.
Jesus became angry.
God gets angry at injustice.
The goal isn't to never feel anger.
The goal is to never let anger become your master.
Anyone can react.
Strength is being angry, frustrated, hurt, or offended and still choosing a Godly response.
"Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city."
Proverbs 16:32
Reaction asks, "What do I feel like doing?"
Response asks, "What would God have me do?"
