Making my own garlic powder ✨

I had less than half a bag of garlic about to go bad, so I decided to make my own garlic powder to avoid letting it go to waste. Not only was the flavor a lot better than store-bought, but it’s also a whole lot cheaper. I made about 10 oz of garlic powder with not even half a bag of garlic. I buy a whole bag of garlic for around $6, while garlic powder costs around the same price for only 3 oz. It’s a really simple way to save money and reduce waste at home.

✨Instructions

❣️Peel the garlic cloves and slice them thinly for even drying.

❣️Dry the Garlic:

- Oven Method: Preheat your oven to the lowest setting (around 150°F / 65°C). Spread the garlic slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 1-2 hours, checking frequently until completely dry and brittle.

- Dehydrator Method: Place the garlic slices in a dehydrator at 125°F (52°C) for 6-8 hours until they are fully dried.

*if planning to use the garlic peels dehydrate those as-well

❣️Blend into Powder:

- Once cooled, place the dried garlic slices in a spice grinder or blender. Blend until you reach a fine powder consistency.

❣️Store Properly:

- Transfer the garlic powder into an airtight container and store in a cool, dark place. It will keep for several months!

The real magic happens when you transfer those brittle, dried garlic cloves into a blender. It's astonishing to watch them transform from crisp little pieces into a fine, light brown powder. The aroma that fills your kitchen at this stage is absolutely intoxicating and far surpasses anything you'd get from a store-bought version. I always aim for a super fine consistency, as it blends better into dishes and looks fantastic when you're done! Once the powder is perfectly fine, the final step—and one of my favorites—is transferring it into airtight containers. Seeing the finished homemade garlic powder neatly packed in those glass jars is incredibly satisfying. It’s not just a pantry staple; it’s a testament to your efforts in reducing waste and embracing a more sustainable lifestyle. The 'DONE' feeling you get when you cap off those jars is unmatched. Thank you so much for sharing! I've been throwing away a lot of food, so have been looking for things I can do to use it in other ways. And I always use a lot of different spices, especially garlic powder. I do have a question tho, is this more like granulated garlic or powder? Or can you do it both ways? I use both, but there are times I prefer granulated garlic. 💙💙💙
