Extremely simple PM skincare routine

When my skin barrier is absolutely damaged, I like to keep my skincare VERY simple until my barrier is less damaged. That means no actives, acids, or exfoliators. I just find my skin heals quicker when there’s no a lot of product being applied onto my skin. My skin broke out into a horrible rash after trying 2 new products in this photo!!

Makeup remover - versed

Very gentle, non-irritating and quickly slips off your makeup

Face cleanser - skin1004

Very creamy and gentle! Never leaves your skin feeling stripped or tight

Hyaluronic acid - Mixsoon

Makes your skin feel so hydrated! TBH this isn’t my absolute favorite hyaluronic acid forumula but it gets the job done

Moisturizer - Innisfree

So creamy and hydrating. I can use this both day and night. I wake up with my skin feeling so plump

Eye cream - Sunday Riley

So luxurious under the eye. It’s creamy and non sticky. I also using this during the day because it doesn’t pill under makeup

Medicube booster pro

I only use the blue light when my skin is feeling extremely irritated. The blue light helps fight bacteria and acne!

... Read moreWhen my skin barrier was compromised, the most crucial lesson I learned was that 'less is truly more.' It’s tempting to throw every 'healing' product at the problem, but for me, simplifying my routine was the fastest path back to healthy, calm skin. The goal is to reduce inflammation, replenish moisture, and give your skin the space to repair itself. Let's dive a bit deeper into why each step in a simple PM routine is a game-changer when you're dealing with a damaged barrier, redness, or irritation. Starting with makeup removal, a gentle option like the Versed balm is paramount. Harsh scrubbing or stripping cleansers can exacerbate trauma to an already fragile barrier. Follow this with a creamy, non-stripping face cleanser, similar to the Skin1004 one I used. You want to cleanse away impurities without that tight, squeaky-clean feeling that signals your natural oils have been stripped. Warm water, not hot, is also a small but mighty tip I picked up. Next, hydration is critical. A good hyaluronic acid serum, such as the Mixsoon one, acts like a magnet for moisture, drawing it into your skin and helping to plump up those compromised cells. This, combined with a rich yet non-comedogenic moisturizer like the Innisfree cream, creates a protective seal. This seal is essential to prevent further moisture loss and shield your skin from environmental aggressors while it heals overnight. I found that a creamy texture made my skin feel instantly soothed and nourished, waking up feeling significantly less tight and more supple. Don't forget the delicate eye area! An eye cream, like the Sunday Riley one, provides targeted hydration and support without overburdening the thin skin there. And for those stubborn breakouts or areas of intense irritation, a device like the Medicube Booster Pro with its blue light function can be a lifesaver. I specifically used the blue light to target bacteria and calm active acne, which often accompanies a damaged barrier. This focused treatment helped address new breakouts without irritating the rest of my face. Beyond the skincare products, I discovered a few non-negotiable tips for truly healing a damaged skin barrier. Firstly, patience. It takes time for your skin to recover, so consistency and avoiding new irritants are key. I also learned the importance of patch testing any new product, no matter how gentle it claims to be, especially when your skin is already vulnerable. Steer clear of fragrances, essential oils, and, as mentioned, actives like retinoids, AHAs, and BHAs until your skin is fully recovered. While this article focuses on my PM routine, remember your AM routine is equally important. A gentle cleanse, a hydrating serum, your barrier-supporting moisturizer, and most importantly, a broad-spectrum SPF are crucial to protect your healing skin from sun damage, which can worsen redness and slow down recovery. Think of both your AM and PM routines as working in tandem to nurture your skin back to its resilient best. With a focused, simple approach, you can absolutely soothe redness and irritation, bringing your skin back to a healthy, happy state.

i’ve been eyeing that innisfree moisturizer for a while! i have oily skin that is also lacking moisture; rich stuff is too heavy and makes me oilier and lighter stuff isn’t hydrating enough. how do you like this one?
