They then meticulously scrape off any remaining glue and polish your teeth to make them feel super smooth. It's an incredible feeling to run your tongue over your teeth without any brackets or wires! Immediately after, your teeth might feel a bit sensitive, especially to cold or hot temperatures. This is completely normal as they've been protected by your braces for so long. The smoothness of your teeth will be a revelation – it truly feels like a brand new smile! You might also notice some very faint bracket marks, which are essentially just areas where the enamel wasn't exposed to food and drink stains. Most of these fade quickly with good oral hygiene, and your orthodontist can also buff them out if needed. Don't panic if your teeth feel a little 'loose' or movable; they're just settling into their new positions, and your retainer will help keep them there. Speaking of retainers, this is the most crucial part of maintaining your beautiful new smile! Your orthodontist will likely fit you for either a removable retainer (like a clear aligner or Hawley retainer) or a fixed retainer (a thin wire bonded to the back of your front teeth), or sometimes both. It's so important to wear your retainer exactly as prescribed – seriously, don't skip it! This prevents your teeth from shifting back to their original positions. Cleaning your teeth will also feel much easier and more effective. You can finally floss without any obstacles and brush every surface thoroughly, which is fantastic for your overall oral health. The boost in confidence after getting your braces off is immense. Being able to smile freely, without metal, is such a liberating feeling. You'll probably find yourself smiling in every mirror and taking endless selfies! It’s a rewarding end to a long process, and seeing the transformation makes all those months of adjustments and food restrictions totally worth it.
