I’ve tried a lot of lip balms but here are a few that I have with me currently, some are my all time go to and some are just not that great.
1 - Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips Tub
Works well for my lips and I always carry it around especially during the cold season here in the Midwest.
2 - Glossier Mango Balm Dot Com
Tastes amazing and I actually really like the texture on my lips, never tried the original formula so I can’t really compare them.
3 - DHC Lip Cream
Glide smoothly on my chapped lips and I got this during my trip to Japan and I can say that I’ve used up decent amount of it.
4 - Sebamed Lip Defense
Bought this when I was home in Malaysia, have some inter red color to it and what made me to buy it was because it has spf30 in it and it was sunny as heck in Malaysia that time and my lips starting getting sunburned badly. It helps so I recommend!
5 - Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips
Not to bad but not as much as I like the tub version. This one doesn’t work as well as the other one for me. Bought it cause I was traveling and thought it be more hygienic than using my fingers.
6 - Dr PawPaw
My bad on this one, I used a Grand Paw Paw lip balm before and love it and I didn’t realize this was not the same thing and I bought it. Regret instantly when I tried it the first time, probably the worst lip balm I’ve ever tried. Don’t recommend at all!
... Read moreAfter sharing my personal journey through different lip balms, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what makes a great lip balm and help you find your perfect match! It’s not just about what brand you pick; understanding the types and ingredients can totally change your lip care game.
First off, let's talk about the different types of lip balms you should know about. You've seen them in various forms, right? There are the classic sticks, which are super convenient for on-the-go application and generally more hygienic since you don't need to use your fingers. Then there are the tubs, like my Vaseline Rosy Lips Tub, which I adore for its rich, nourishing feel. While a tub often feels more luxurious and allows you to really work the product into your lips, some people prefer not to dip their fingers in, especially when out and about. Lastly, we have squeeze tubes, which offer a nice middle ground – usually a gel-like or thicker consistency, easy to apply without fingers, and often with a lovely sheen. Each type has its own feel and application ritual, so it's worth trying a few to see what suits your lifestyle best.
Another aspect that truly elevates the lip balm experience is flavor. For me, a great flavor can make applying lip balm a delightful little ritual. My Glossier Mango Balm Dot Com is a perfect example – it tastes amazing, and that instantly makes me want to reach for it more often! Beyond fruity options like mango or berry, you can find everything from minty cool sensations that plump your lips, to vanilla, chocolate, or even spiced chai. Finding a flavor you genuinely enjoy can encourage consistent use, which is key for keeping your lips hydrated and happy. Some lip balm brands truly stand out for their innovative and delicious flavor profiles, making their balms feel like a delightful treat.
When it comes to effectiveness, it's all about the ingredients and innovative formulas. While many traditional balms rely on occlusives like petrolatum or beeswax to create a barrier, modern lip balms often incorporate more advanced skincare ingredients. Look out for things like hyaluronic acid, which draws moisture into the lips; ceramides, to help repair the skin barrier; or peptides, for a plumping effect. Some "cutting-edge" lip balms might feature unique plant extracts, antioxidants, or even subtle tints that offer skincare benefits alongside a touch of color. Understanding these ingredients can help you choose a lip balm that doesn't just sit on top but actively works to improve your lip health in the long run.
So, how do you find the best lip balm for *you*? It really comes down to your individual needs and preferences. If you're battling severely chapped lips, a thicker, more occlusive formula with healing ingredients like shea butter or lanolin might be your best bet. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, like I did in sunny Malaysia, an SPF lip balm is non-negotiable. I learned that the hard way with sunburned lips, and now I always make sure to have one with SPF 30 or higher. For daily maintenance, you might prefer something lighter, perhaps with a subtle shine or a fun flavor. Don't be afraid to read reviews, try samples, and experiment. What works wonders for one person might not be ideal for another, but the journey of discovery is part of the fun!
Ultimately, whether you prefer a classic stick, a luxurious tub, or a convenient squeeze tube, the goal is healthy, comfortable, and happy lips. My "tried & tested" journey has taught me that sometimes the simplest solutions are the best, but there's also a whole world of innovation waiting to be explored. Keep those lips moisturized, protected, and feeling great!
