How to keep your plants clean

Did you know that you have to clean your plant leaves especially if they're bigger plants because they collect a lot of dust. And when the leaves are dusty, they're not getting enough sunlight. Here's how I clean the leaves of my plants.

First method: using Miracle grow leaf shine. This spray cleans your leaves and it also gives it a nice shine. I like how it looks afterwards. I just sprayed it and clean it with a microfiber cloth.

Second Method: you can just use water you could get a spray bottle like the one that I'm using and spray the leaves and cleaned it with the microfiber cloth. This would clean them but It won't give a shine to the leaves.

... Read moreBeyond just helping your plants get more sunlight, keeping their leaves clean is a game-changer for their overall health and your home's aesthetic! I've learned firsthand that dusty leaves don't just look dull; they can also become a breeding ground for pests like spider mites. Plus, a clean plant simply brightens up any room! You might be wondering how often to clean your plant leaves. In my experience, a light dusting weekly and a thorough wipe-down every two to four weeks works wonders, especially for those larger, broad-leafed plants like my Ficus elastica (rubber plant) or even some of my smaller, leafy beauties. The key is consistency! While the article mentioned using a spray bottle with water and a microfiber cloth, which is fantastic for a gentle clean, I've also experimented with other methods. For a natural shine, I once tried the banana peel trick on my houseplant leaves. You simply take the inside of a ripe banana peel and gently rub it over the leaves. It leaves a lovely, natural sheen without any chemicals, and my plants seemed to love it! Just make sure to wipe off any residue with a clean, damp cloth afterward to prevent stickiness. When cleaning, always be gentle. Support the leaf with one hand while wiping with the other, especially for delicate or newly unfurled leaves. For plants with textured or velvety leaves, a soft brush (like a clean makeup brush) can be more effective than a cloth to get into all the nooks and crannies. I always use lukewarm water in my spray bottle – never cold or hot – as extreme temperatures can shock the plant. And speaking of sprays, if you're looking for that extra 'pop,' a plant leaf shine spray (like the Miracle-Gro one I mentioned earlier) can be a fantastic finishing touch. Just remember to use it sparingly and follow the product instructions. It creates that beautiful, clean, shiny green plant leaf look that makes all your hard work worthwhile. What about those really dusty situations? Sometimes, my biggest plants accumulate so much dust that a simple wipe isn't enough. For these, I occasionally give them a gentle shower! I'll take them to the bathroom, place them in the tub, and use a handheld showerhead with a very soft, cool spray to rinse off the accumulated grime. Afterwards, I let them air dry in a well-ventilated spot before returning them to their usual place. This method is especially great for plants that are too large to easily wipe each leaf individually. Always check the undersides of the leaves too! Pests often hide there, and a quick clean can help you spot and address them early. By keeping your plants clean, you're not just making them look good; you're actively contributing to their health and longevity. It's a small task that yields big rewards for any plant parent!
