From my personal trips, one of the best times to explore this iconic Incan citadel is early in the morning when the crowds are low and the sunrise paints the ancient stone ruins in a warm, golden light. This quiet time is perfect for intimate moments and beautiful photography. When planning a visit in January like in this post, it’s important to consider the weather, as it is the rainy season in Peru. While rain can occasionally impact visibility, it also adds a mystical atmosphere with mist rolling over the mountains. Packing appropriately with waterproof gear and sturdy shoes can make all the difference. Beyond Machu Picchu itself, the surrounding Sacred Valley offers charming towns such as Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes, which provide authentic cultural experiences and cozy accommodations. Many couples enjoy exploring these areas together, tasting local cuisine, and engaging with the vibrant Peruvian culture.
