Re-Introduction

👋 Hi! You can call me Sarah.

💔 I’m 19 years old and I lost my parent recently.

🌲 I love animals & my Meyers-Briggs personality type is INFJ.

🤲 I’ve been a teenage caretaker for multiple years & I’ve learned a lot.

🤝 I want to build a safe community of people who are teens or young adults that can relate to caregiving and grieving.

💙 I’m in a horrible amount of pain (on multiple levels) but funnily enough posting on social media has been a cathartic outlet for me.

😡 My parent’s pain was minimized and dismissed and now so has been my grief.

🗣️ We need to have more conversations around grief and death to make the less familiar more familiar and less isolating.

➡️ To the teens and young adults out there who can relate to grief or caregiving - I’d love to meet!

📝 What’s your name, the person you lost, a memory you have of that person & anything you’d recommend to those going through grief or one thing you wished you knew about the journey earlier on?

I look forward to connecting! 💙

Love,

~ Sarah

... Read moreLoss and grief impact many young individuals, yet conversations around these topics remain scarce. Teens often face dismissal and minimization of their experiences, making it crucial to create supportive communities where they can share their stories. Engaging in discussions about grief raises awareness and normalizes feelings of loss, fostering a more empathetic society. Understanding grief involves recognizing its unique qualities. It doesn't follow a linear path, and individuals can experience it differently based on their relationships and circumstances. Studies show that open dialogues about loss can aid healing and lessen feelings of isolation. By sharing memories of loved ones and coping strategies, grieving youths can find solace in shared experiences and collective understanding. Mental health resources for young caregivers and grievers are vital. Organizations like The Dougy Center provide specialized support for youth experiencing loss. Online platforms are also emerging to address the needs of young mourners, offering forums and virtual meetings to facilitate connection. Joining groups can help in rebuilding your sense of self, empowering you to cope more effectively with grief. Whether through social media or local meet-ups, connecting with others who have faced similar losses can provide both comfort and validation. Let's advocate for more conversations around death, grief, and healing together.
