Mortgage Monday

🚨 Mortgage Industry Update 🚨

The Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act is finally moving forward — and it’s a huge win for homebuyers.

For years, borrowers applying for a mortgage have experienced trigger leads, where their credit inquiry is sold by the bureaus.

This leads to dozens of unwanted calls from lenders they never contacted.

Credit bureaus involved include:

• Experian

• Equifax

• TransUnion

The new law will help protect consumer privacy by restricting the sale of that information unless permission is given.

✅ Less spam

✅ More privacy

✅ A better mortgage experience

A long overdue change for the industry and for homebuyers.

... Read moreAs someone who has gone through the mortgage process recently, I can truly appreciate the impact the Homebuyers Privacy Protection Act will have on new homebuyers. Previously, when I applied for a mortgage, I was inundated with countless unsolicited calls from lenders I hadn't contacted. This was due to my credit inquiry being sold by major credit bureaus—Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion—to various mortgage lenders and brokers. While it sometimes felt like an aggressive marketing tactic, it quickly became overwhelming and intrusive. What this new legislation promises is a meaningful shift in how our personal data is handled. By restricting the sale of credit inquiries unless explicit permission is granted, homebuyers will face fewer 'trigger leads'—those unexpected leads triggered by credit checks—and thereby reduce the constant barrage of unknown calls. This change means borrowers can regain control over their information, leading to enhanced privacy. Moreover, beyond just reducing spam calls, this Act contributes to a better mortgage experience overall. Borrowers can now shop mortgage options more confidently without fear that their inquiry will generate unsolicited pressure from lenders. Transparency and consent will be foundational to the mortgage application process moving forward. For anyone embarking on homeownership, understanding this update is crucial. It empowers consumers by protecting their data and promotes fairness in the mortgage industry. If you’re preparing to apply for a mortgage or simply curious about recent industry changes, staying informed about acts like this one is invaluable. In light of this new law, I recommend consumers calmly engage with their credit reports and stay vigilant about who accesses their information. Using trusted lenders and asking questions about privacy policies will help ensure your mortgage journey is as smooth and secure as possible.
