Low-carb diet on elevated liver enzymes

My doctor ordered a Liver Function Panel test cos of elevated liver enzymes on last month's Metabolic Panel. I was worried cos I felt like it was another cause of hypothyroidism (unmedicated). I rarely drink liquor. The last time I drank was 6 months ago (in the PH). I looked up mild fatty liver online and was determined to change my diet to improve the test results within a month. I discovered how amazing our body recuperates by changing what we eat. It was only a month since but the results were exhilarating. Imagine doing it regularly for the rest of your life. Extending one's life through mindful eating is far better than relying on medications. We are what we eat, after all.

Read moreWhen I first received my liver function test results showing elevated ALT and other enzymes, I was quite concerned, especially since these abnormalities sometimes relate to more serious liver conditions like fatty liver disease. However, my experience taught me that diet can be a powerful tool for liver recovery. Switching to a low-carb diet made a significant difference in my liver enzyme levels in just one month. By reducing carbohydrate intake, I minimized fat accumulation in my liver, which often contributes to liver inflammation and elevated enzymes. Eliminating processed sugars and refined grains helped stabilize my blood sugar and insulin levels, which further supported liver healing. In addition to cutting carbs, I focused on whole foods: plenty of vegetables, healthy fats like olive oil and avocado, and lean proteins such as fish and poultry. Drinking enough water and avoiding alcohol—especially since I rarely drank liquor even before—further supported detoxification processes. Mindful eating played a crucial role too. I paid close attention to how foods made me feel, avoided overeating, and practiced regular meal times. This helped regulate metabolism and reduce liver stress. From my personal journey, I can say that the body is incredibly resilient. The liver, given the right conditions, has an amazing capacity to repair itself. Monitoring liver enzymes with your healthcare provider while making dietary changes can guide your progress and provide reassurance. Of course, individual results will vary, and anyone with elevated liver enzymes or underlying health conditions should consult a healthcare professional before making major dietary changes. However, my experience suggests that embracing a low-carb, mindful eating lifestyle can be an effective approach to improving liver health naturally.
