猛暑の中での観葉植物の管理は本当に大変ですよね。特に名古屋のように40度を超える日が続くと、水やりのタイミングや方法に悩む方も多いと思います。 私も酷暑の季節にモンステラを育てていますが、暑さによる蒸散の増加で土が乾くのが早く、水切れに敏感になります。 そんな中、空調服や扇風機を活用しながら頻繁な水やりをすることで、葉の元気を維持しています。 また、デリシオサのように春の間は葉を展開しなくても、夏に一気にエネルギーを蓄えて大きな穴のあいた葉を展開する個体もあり、その違いに驚くことも。これは個体差や環境ストレスへの適応の表れかと思われます。 同じモンステラでも葉の穴の数や大きさに違いが見られ、それぞれの株が持つポテンシャルを引き出すためには、適切な環境調整とこまめな観察が重要です。たとえば、ヒルデウィンテラのように花の数は少なくても、その分成長に力を入れていることもあります。 また、夏場は成長が鈍ることもあるオルソフィツムのような種類も見られますが、日陰で風通し良く管理しつつ、水やりの加減を工夫することで元気を保てます。 子株の成長も嬉しいポイントで、ベイレイの子株が少しずつ大きくなる様子は育てる喜びを感じさせてくれます。ハルシオンの花が咲いたのも、夏場の手入れの成果と言えるでしょう。 暑さで外出を控えざるを得ない時こそ、こうした観葉植物の世話は癒やしと充実感をもたらしてくれます。皆さんも、酷暑期の植物管理には空調服や適切な道具を活用し、無理せず楽しみながら育ててみてください。
