Don’t just wipe your glasses!

I used to think that simply wiping my glasses with a tissue or shirt was enough to keep them clean, but I quickly learned that this common habit actually causes more harm than good. Wiping with a dry or rough fabric can create micro-scratches on the lenses, which not only reduce clarity but also make the glasses more prone to gathering dirt and oil. What helped me was switching to using a microfiber cloth specifically designed for eyewear. These cloths are gentle and pick up oils and smudges without scratching the surface. Additionally, I started rinsing my glasses with some lukewarm water before wiping, which helped remove loose debris and prevented scratches caused by rubbing dirt particles. For deeper cleaning, using a dab of eyeglasses cleaning solution or a mild soap diluted in water works wonders. I spray or gently apply the solution on the lenses and then wipe clean with the microfiber cloth. This routine has kept my glasses clear and extended their lifespan. If your glasses often feel oily, it might be due to natural skin oils or environmental pollutants. Regular and proper cleaning prevents buildup that can blur your vision. Also, avoid using household cleaners like window or ammonia-based products since they can damage lens coatings. Finally, storing your glasses in a hard case when not in use and handling them by the frame reduces the chance of fingerprint smudges and accidental scratches. By adopting these practices, I noticed a significant improvement in how my glasses look and perform daily. It’s not just about wiping your glasses; it’s about cleaning them thoughtfully for long-lasting comfort and clarity.
