Year of the horse
I thought it would be interesting to do a Chinese zodiac illustration and since this is the year of the fire horse I had an idea right out the gate. In Chinese medicine they recognize five elements all of which correspond to different parts of the body. The element of fire is associated with the heart so I decided to include one. I also included a horse skull because the Chinese zodiac is very much a cycle so I wanted to represent that in some form and I decided on the cycle of life and death for this piece.
