🌼 Case Study: i had a miscarriage before…

I recently had a mummy reach out to ask if she could still apply for a maternity plan even though she had a miscarriage before. I realised many women quietly carry this same worry — so I wanted to share this openly.

A rejection from one insurer doesn’t mean you no longer have options.

Miscarriages can happen for many different reasons, and insurers assess risk differently. What matters is understanding:

- why the previous application was rejected

- what the medical notes say

- how your current pregnancy is progressing

- and which insurer’s risk appetite fits your situation

I work with multiple insurers in Singapore, and each of them evaluates cases differently. With the right documents and a clear understanding of your history, many mummies still have viable options for coverage — for themselves and their future baby.

If you’re unsure about your situation or want to understand what’s possible, you’re welcome to drop me a message anytime. Every case is different, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

... Read moreFrom my experience helping expectant mothers navigate maternity insurance after experiencing a miscarriage, I’ve learned that understanding how insurers view your situation is key. Many women worry that having had a miscarriage, especially conditions like fetal pole absence or no fetal heart activity, automatically disqualifies them from coverage. However, that’s not necessarily true. Insurers assess risk based on detailed medical notes and the reasons behind previous rejections. For example, a miscarriage can result from various causes—chromosomal abnormalities, hormonal issues, or other health factors—that don’t always repeat in future pregnancies. If your current pregnancy is progressing well with normal scans and health markers, many insurers may be more willing to provide coverage. It also helps to work with an insurance advisor who understands the specific underwriting guidelines of multiple insurers. Singapore’s insurance providers often have different risk appetites, so an application rejected by one may be accepted by another. With thorough documentation like ultrasound reports and doctors’ notes, plus transparent communication about your medical history, you improve your chances significantly. For anyone facing this uncertainty, my advice is to gather all your recent medical records and consult with someone knowledgeable before giving up on maternity insurance. It’s normal to feel anxious after a miscarriage, but you don’t have to face insurance questions alone. Having a supportive guide can help you find a plan that suits both you and your future baby’s needs.
