Does “here for the paycheck" outlook rub u wrong?
I do not hang with coworkers outside work. But so many people say they refuse to share anything personal with their team, never ask about families, don’t care about hobbies. Their interactions with people they spend most days with? Maybe I’m naive (I’ve never been screwed over by a coworker), but this mindset feels so foreign.
Plus, I’m aiming to be a manager, and execs push that “paycheck-only” vibe is bad, but it irks regular workers. My manager got his team’s trust by complaining about mandatory office days: “We’re here for the money if I could work from home and make this cash, I would.”
For lower/middle managers, how do you keep it real with hourly staff without dissing founders or long-time execs who sacrificed work-life balance?
