Behind schedule and over budget: the life of a dog mom (Ziggy’s costume build part 2)😂#CapCut #halloween #dogparade #dogcostume #keurig @nikki caminetsky @Keurig
Being a dog mom is truly a labor of love, isn't it? Especially when you're trying to pull off an epic Halloween costume for your furry best friend, like my Ziggy's Keurig outfit! I swear, every year it feels like I'm racing against the clock and watching my budget fly out the window. This 'Part 2' of the costume build has been a wild ride – from trying to find the perfect materials that are both safe and comfortable for Ziggy, to grappling with intricate details that always take longer than I anticipate. The idea for a Ziggy's Keurig costume came from a funny moment at home, and I just knew it would be a showstopper at the annual dog parade. But turning that vision into reality? That's where the 'behind schedule and over budget' part truly kicks in! I started with sketches, then moved on to sourcing lightweight cardboard, shiny metallic fabric for the 'chrome' accents, and even a little faux steam effect. Each step has its own set of challenges. For instance, getting the cup-holder mechanism to look realistic while still allowing Ziggy full range of motion for his adorable strut? Easier said than done! I've gone through multiple iterations, and each one adds to the material cost and the time spent hunched over my sewing machine or hot glue gun. And let me tell you, it adds another layer of complexity when you're also navigating a dog's recovery journey. If you've ever dealt with something like a TPLO surgery, you know the extra care and attention your pup needs. It totally changes your schedule and capacity for big projects! Making sure Ziggy is comfortable and happy is always the priority, which means sometimes the costume build has to take a backseat, or I have to get extra creative with design modifications to accommodate his needs. For example, ensuring the costume doesn't put any pressure on his recovering leg and allows for easy movement has been a key consideration throughout this process. It's a constant balance of wanting to make him shine at the dog parade and ensuring his well-being comes first. I've learned so much through this process, not just about crafting, but about patience and perseverance. There have been moments of frustration, for sure – like when a piece doesn't fit quite right, or Ziggy decides a half-finished component is a new chew toy! But then there are those tiny victories: when a seam finally lines up, or when I see him try on a piece of the Keurig costume and he looks absolutely adorable. Those moments are pure gold and fuel me to keep going. For all my fellow dog parents out there tackling ambitious DIYs or dealing with unexpected hurdles, just know you're not alone in the beautiful chaos of dog parenthood. My biggest tip? Start early (earlier than you think!), have a flexible budget (because things WILL come up), and most importantly, remember that the joy and bond with your pup are what truly matter, far more than a perfect costume. Keep going, and remember to soak up all those precious moments, even the 'behind schedule and over budget' ones. Wish us luck for the big parade!
