Brethren, this is not a suggestion—it is a warning wrapped in mercy. The Word declares that the end of all things is at hand. That means time is not endless. The hourglass is running, and every grain of sand that falls is a reminder that eternity is drawing nearer.
“Be ye therefore sober”—this is a call to spiritual clarity. Not drunken with the cares of this world, not consumed by sin, not distracted by pleasures that fade. A sober mind is awake, disciplined, and rooted in truth. The enemy thrives where there is carelessness, but God calls His people to vigilance.
“And watch unto prayer.” Prayer is not optional—it is your lifeline. To watch means to stay alert, to discern the times, to guard your heart. A prayerless life is a powerless life. But a watching, praying believer walks in strength, guided by the Spirit, prepared for the coming of the Lord.
