“You are not crazy. You are awake in an insane world. For that exact reason, most people will call you crazy.”
From a biblical perspective, this idea can reflect what happens when a person begins to see the truth of God's Word while the world continues in darkness.
The Lord Jesus said:
“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
— John 3:19 (KJV)
When a believer chooses to follow Christ, the world often misunderstands him. The apostles were mocked, persecuted, and considered foolish by many. Yet they stood for truth.
“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.”
— 1 Corinthians 1:27 (KJV)
Noah is a powerful example. For many years he preached righteousness while building the ark. The people around him likely thought he was foolish. Yet Noah was the one who understood God's warning while the world ignored it.
“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house.”
— Hebrews 11:7 (KJV)
However, Scripture also gives a warning. We should not assume that every opinion contrary to society is automatically God's truth. Our beliefs must be tested by the Word of God.
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.”
— 1 John 4:1 (KJV)
The Christian's goal is not merely to be different from the world, but to be conformed to Christ.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
— Romans 12:2 (KJV)
Preaching Thought:
Child of God, do not be discouraged if the world mocks your faith, your conviction, or your desire to live a holy life. When you stand for biblical truth, some will misunderstand you. Noah was mocked. The prophets were rejected. The apostles were persecuted. Even the Lord Jesus Christ was despised by men. Stay faithful to God's Word. The approval of the crowd lasts for a moment, but the approval of God lasts forever. Walk in the light, stand in the truth, and keep your eyes upon Christ, for the world may call you foolish, but God honors those who trust and obey Him. Amen.
