In Proverbs 7, Solomon warns of a seductive harlot who hunts for a young man lacking wisdom. She is attractive, persuasive, and convincing. She promises pleasure without consequences and satisfaction without guilt.
Believing her lies, he follows “as an ox goes to the slaughter” (v.22). He thinks he has found a better way, but Solomon says he has stepped onto the way of hell.
Sexual temptation rarely appears dangerous. It appeals to our flesh, hides the consequences, and convinces us we can indulge without paying the price. Yet God has already revealed where that road ends: “Her house is the way to hell” (v.27). Sin always takes us farther than we intended to go.
Notice that Solomon says in verse 26, “all who were slain by her were strong men.” This warning isn’t just for weak men. It’s even for those that felt confident in their walk. Scripture doesn’t tell us to trust our own strength. It tells us to “walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).
Mature believers learn to depend on Christ. The answer isn’t merely trying harder. It is drawing closer to Him.
Fill your mind with His Word, pursue His presence, and flee whatever feeds sinful desires. The closer we walk with Christ, the less attractive the harlot’s invitation becomes.
Christ did not come merely to forgive us after we’ve wandered onto the wrong road. He came to lead us down the path of life and freedom. Follow Him, and don’t trade His abundant life for the way of hell.
