The parents, 52 and 49, from Muar, Malaysia's Johor province, held a press conference and announced publicly that they had cut off contact with their only 26-year-old son
"The parents were fed up with their son's gambling debts, who was working in Singapore, because he had to pay more than 100,000 Malaysian ringgit (more than 1,000 hundred thousand Myanmar money) in eight years, and this was disconnected."
The last time these parents spent all their savings on paying off their son's debts. According to the father, the son has started to gamble since he was 18 or 19.

He said that about 3 years ago, he thought his son went to Singapore to work and stopped gambling, and they still had to calm down. But such a calm mood didn't take long.
"Last week, when I got a series of phones from my wife, two daughters and a group of seven (Loan Sharks) who were borrowing money to me, I realized that my son was gambling again and paying more debts," the father-of-one who ran the food store said.
In order to pay off the latest debt of RMB30,000 (more than 320 hundred thousand Burmese dollars), we have spent all our last residual balance savings on our parents. The remaining debts are still being paid in installments, negotiating with creditors.
Now, the two parents have said publicly that this is the last time they have paid off their debts for their son. The police station has also given contentious testimony that his actions are no longer related to the family in the future.
The local MP's aide, who took part in the press conference, also reminded young people to stay away from illegal gambling and high-interest loans, that the negative effect of gambling would lead to the whole family collapsing financially as well as emotionally.
