So, recently when I went to Texas, we took family photos. I thought the pictures would come out stunning. Then, we got them back. And I was so hurt that they didn’t look how I thought they would.

The only thing I could focus on was how BIG I looked. I was so embarrassed, I didn’t even want to share them. But when I posted them to instagram, they got nothing but positive feedback.

A few of my friends even said that I looked more tone than before and they could tell where I’d been going to the gym!

It really put into perspective for me - body dysmorphia is in YOUR MIND. The only way to overcome it is to love the body that you’re in now.

BODY IMAGES DONT STOP JUST BECAUSE YOU GET THINNER.

... Read moreBody dysmorphia, often misunderstood, affects many individuals in different ways. It is often defined as a mental health condition where a person becomes preoccupied with perceived flaws in their appearance. This can lead to emotional distress and difficulties in social situations. It's important to remember that body image is not solely determined by physical appearance. Media portrayals and societal expectations can exacerbate feelings of inadequacy, pushing individuals to seek validation through fitness and beauty standards. Seeking support from friends, family, or mental health professionals can pave the way to a healthier body image. Practices such as mindfulness, therapy, and embracing body positivity can be powerful tools. Moreover, sharing personal experiences, like feeling insecure despite receiving compliments, can be validating for others. Conversations surrounding body dysmorphia need to be normalized; they can foster understanding and help dismantle stigma around mental health. It's crucial to challenge unrealistic beauty ideals and embrace diversity in body shapes and sizes. Ultimately, cultivating self-love and acceptance is essential for overcoming body dysmorphia and leading a fulfilling life.
