although a lot of hair growth is genetic, not all of it is! you can maximize your hair growth potential by maintaining your hair health. my hair used to not grow past my upper back. things that work for me:
-washing my hair 2-3x a week (depending on lifestyle)
i honestly believe it’s healthy to wash my hair often, i believe a clean and nourished / moisturized scalp is a healthy scalp
-oiling my scalp multiple times a week, i like to condition my hair at night and then oil my scalp and sleep with the oil in my hair overnight, then i wake up in the morning and wash everything out of my hair, i like to do this 2-3x a week.
-rarely using brushes, i use a wide tooth comb or my fingers to detangle and to style, i think brushes can be a bit harsh on your hair if u don’t need it
-minimal slick backs & tight ponytails
-no heat of course
-wash & go’s as my main hair style
-i also love to take days where i wash my hair and i don’t put anything in my hair, no leave in products, no oil, i believe it kind of gives my hair a break
... Read moreAfter sharing my core hair care routine, many of you asked for more details on my homemade hair growth oil recipe! It's truly been a game-changer for me, and I love that it’s completely natural. This DIY approach has not only boosted my hair growth but also made it feel incredibly healthy.
Let's dive into the simple steps for my go-to infusion. For my special blend, I love to use fresh or dried rosemary, a handful of fragrant rose petals, and refreshing mint leaves. These aren't just pretty; they're packed with benefits for your scalp and hair follicles! Rosemary is known to stimulate circulation, while mint can wonderfully refresh the scalp, and rose petals add a lovely scent and conditioning properties.
Choosing your carrier oils is key. I usually reach for a mix of cold-pressed coconut oil, jojoba oil, and sometimes a dash of castor oil for extra thickness. You'll want to combine your herbs and oils in a heat-safe container. The magic happens when you gently simmer everything for about 20-30 minutes. This slow, gentle heat helps to thoroughly infuse all those wonderful botanicals into the oil, extracting their beneficial compounds. Once cooled, strain the mixture and pour it into a clean, airtight container. I actually prefer to keep some of the herbs in the oil to allow for continued infusion, believing it makes the oil even more potent over time.
Many of you also asked about how to use castor oil for hair growth. While I often add a bit to my general carrier oil blend, it's quite thick on its own. If you're using it straight, I highly recommend mixing it with a lighter oil like jojoba or sweet almond oil (a 1:1 ratio works well) to make it easier to apply and wash out. Castor oil is fantastic for thickening strands and nourishing the scalp, especially for patchy areas.
For those interested in other powerful natural ingredients, I've experimented with homemade amla oil and curry leaves hair oil preparation. Amla (Indian gooseberry) is a powerhouse for strengthening hair, preventing premature greying, and promoting overall hair health. You can infuse dried amla powder or fresh amla pieces in a carrier oil similar to my rosemary method. For curry leaves, simply warm them gently in a carrier oil (like coconut oil) until they darken and become fragrant – it's a traditional secret for hair re-pigmentation and growth, and gives a lovely aroma too!
The beauty of DIY is endless customization! Beyond rosemary and mint, you can experiment with fenugreek seeds (great for strength), hibiscus flowers (for shine and conditioning), or even nettle leaves (known for reducing hair fall). The general rule for how to mix herbs for hair growth is to combine about 1 part dried herbs to 4-5 parts carrier oil, and let it infuse for at least 2 weeks in a dark place, or gently simmer as I do for a quicker and more potent infusion.
Incorporating these infused oils into your routine, just like I mentioned in my original post, makes a huge difference. Regularly massaging the oil into your scalp stimulates blood flow, nourishing follicles and creating an optimal environment for growth. I truly feel it has not only accelerated my hair growth but also improved its overall strength, shine, and manageability. It's a wonderful, natural DIY hair oil treatment that anyone can try at home for truly transformative results!
