FOODS TO EAT PRE AND POST WORKOUT
A lot of people ask what are the right things to eat pre and post workout to maximize your training? You don’t want to eat too much and feel full and lethargic before a lift but you want to have enough energy to push yourself without feeling overly fatigued. What I have found is there is a sweet spot somewhere in the middle.
Before a workout you want to mainly focus on eating a small amount of complex carbohydrates. This could be a banana, a rice cake, or a little bit of both as shown above! This provides your body with the burst of energy you need to conduct your workout without feeling overly full. Your body will use these carbs as the energy burned during the workout.
After a workout, it is important to refuel your body. I aim to have at least 30 grams of protein in the first 60 minutes after a workout has finished. This could be in the form of a bar or protein drink if you are on the go, or a meal containing meat, eggs, yogurt or cheese. I like for my post workout meal to be my largest of the day so my body feels fully refueled.
