Replying to @Heather #fyp #babyleadweaning Im really bad at explaining things so I hope that makes sense Lolol
Baby-led weaning (BLW) is an increasingly popular approach where babies feed themselves solid foods rather than being spoon-fed purees. Based on personal experience, starting BLW after the 6-month mark is ideal as babies typically develop the oral motor skills needed to handle different textures by then. One of the biggest advantages of BLW is that it promotes self-regulation of appetite and encourages babies to explore a variety of foods in their natural forms. For example, foods like soft cooked meat cut into finger-sized pieces or squished blueberries are excellent options. These textures help babies develop their chewing and grasping abilities simultaneously. Parents may worry about choking risks, but with proper supervision and offering appropriately sized and textured foods, BLW can be a safe method. It is important to avoid hard, small foods like whole nuts or raw carrot sticks that may pose a hazard. Instead, cooking vegetables until soft or mashing fruits lightly can reduce risks. Practicing BLW also means you can give your baby many of the same foods you eat, provided they are healthy and properly prepared, promoting social and family mealtimes. My experience shows that babies often become enthusiastic little foodies, eagerly trying new tastes and textures, which helps expand their palate without pressure. Ultimately, BLW is about trusting your baby’s cues and allowing them to explore food at their own pace. Consistency and patience are key, as some babies may take time to adjust. Consulting with your pediatrician can also provide tailored advice to ensure your baby’s nutritional needs are met safely during this exciting transition.
