Some race kennels train a “puppy team” (usually about 2 years old by the time Iditarod comes around) to run with a rookie musher on a very slow, conservative schedule. The goal isn’t to be competitive, it’s just meant to give them a good first intro to the race. Once they’ve finished, they might graduate to the “A team” where they will run competitively! For that reason, a lot dogs you’ll see during the Iditarod have already finished it several times over. #workingdog #dogsport #husky #sleddogs
