How the System Failed Marcellus Williams
The facts about Marcellus Williams' case:
Marcellus Williams was convicted for the 1998 murder of Lisha Gayle, a former reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Gayle was tragically stabbed 43 times during a burglary at her home in University City, Missouri.
No forensic evidence—including DNA found on the murder weapon—tied Williams to the crime. DNA testing in 2016 revealed that the male DNA on the knife used to kill Gayle did not match Williams. Despite this, the state moved forward with his execution.
The case against Williams heavily relied on two witnesses with criminal backgrounds who received promises of reduced sentences and $10,000 in reward money for their testimony. Both witnesses gave inconsistent stories, and the information they provided could not be independently confirmed
Six Black jurors were removed by the prosecution during jury selection, leaving a nearly all-white jury. The prosecutor admitted to striking one Black juror because he believed the juror resembled Marcellus Williams, which is a clear sign of racial bias.
The victim’s family and the prosecutor’s office supported commuting his sentence to life without parole, but the Missouri Attorney General and Governor Mike Parson pushed for his execution.

I can’t believe people can still get the death penalty. No one is God , so no one can judge who is to live. No evidence???!!! This is crazy. This the country we live in ☹️
