Real Things We Did To Afford SAHM Homeschool Life
In 2023 our preschool was charging $1600 per potty trained kiddo. I'd now be looking at a whopping $3,300 a month 85% of my monthly income would go to paying childcare. You start to ask yourself "does that other 15% really matter?". Our family personally decided NO. We made several lifestyle swaps to be able to afford the priceless time with our children and now can be the leading hand in their early education. If homeschooling or becoming a stay at home mom is on your heart here's some real adjustments you can make,
- 🏡LIVING SPACE. rental properties without washer/dryer or dishwashers are significantly cheaper. Wash dishes by hand and use a laundromat OR portal washer and air dry. This saves us $400-500 a month in rent and buying a portable washer saves us $140 a month in laundromat expenses. SAVING $540-640
- 💰 GROCERY/COUPON. Only grocery shop online, meal plan for whatever is on sale, and download couponing apps for rebates. I made $117 back in rebates in 6 months using Ibotta. Best household coupons live in the Dollar General app!
-📚CURRICULUM. Most curriculums have 1 big annual sale. I generally use our tax return to buy a bundle pack that includes EVERYTHING you'd need for a year of learning ALL subjects and get a second one (the following year) at a 40/50% discount. ~$300 for 2 years of learning. You can also use FREE homeschool curriculum, IT IS OUT THERE!
- 💪PART TIME JOBS. I only get jobs that have FREE childcare or is an environment where I can bring my kiddos to engage with others. Gyms that offer childcare and indoor playgrounds have been successful industries that offer flexible scheduling and are truly family friendly.
If you're analyzing your life and not seeing how it's possible, pray on it. Pray for sight on the HOW, pray for your family to receive blessings of financial flexibility, pray for doors to open and the strength to walk through them. God will provide!
