The City of Vancouver has cancelled plans to reinstall the 33 ft tall Trans Am Rapture sculpture at the south end of the Granville Street Bridge following public backlash and concerns over its size. Residents launched a petition calling it an “eyesore” that would block mountain views and attract birds. The artwork, made of crushed cars stacked on a cedar trunk, was removed in 2021 for maintenance and was set to return this summer, with foundation work already underway. City staff now say the site is unsuitable and will seek a new location, while repurposing the concrete base for a smaller art piece.
