- Are we trying to be "good" by behavior... or are we asking God for a "new heart"?
Many people are strict in religion, keeping external rules, regularly attending rituals, but inside is also full of arrogance, comparison, and ulterior motives. Outside religion makes us look good before men, but only internal change makes us right before God.
True goodness does not start at the hands that work well.
But start with the rebuilt heart. ❤️
📖 Main Bible.
Ezekiel 36: 26 says,
"I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take away the heart of stone from your flesh, and will give you a heart of flesh."
The context of this verse is during the period of the captivity of the Israelites in Babylon because of the violation of the covenant. God did not only demand that they adjust their behavior, but promised to "rebuild from within." This is the promise of the New Testament - a deeper restoration than repentance, a repentance.
In the next verse (verse 27), God says,
I will put my spirit within you, and make you walk in my statutes.
So keeping the commandments is not a condition for a new heart.
But the result of a new heart.
This principle is beautifully reflected in Revelation 14: 12.
"This is the patience of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and believe in Jesus."
The latter-day population was not just rule-keepers, but those with "faith in Jesus," who formed obedience from a changed heart.
- The character of God.
The new heart reflects the character of a merciful and newly created God. He is not only a righteous judge, but a restoring Creator.
So good begins with God.
Not from human effort.
He is faithful to covenants; even when humans fail, he also offers change from within; this is the grace that truly leads to obedience.
# External goodness can be caused by many:
Doing well for fame
Doing good because of fear of punishment
Do good in exchange for salvation.
But the heart that has been changed and does good because of loving God
The stone heart follows the rules because "must do."
Meat heart follows because "want to do"
This is the difference between religion and rebirth. Jesus said to Nicodemus, "You must be born again" (John 3) because external reform is not enough. A new heart is the beginning of a new life.

[3] Jesus answered him, "Truly, verily, I say unto you, Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
📜. Idea from Ellen G. White.
In the book "Steps to Christ," chapter 5, "The Proclamation," Ellen G.White explains that the new heart is not self-improvement, but the giving of all the will to Christ. When we give up the heart, the Holy Ghost works to change within.
In the chapter "Rebirth," she emphasizes that real change occurs in motivation, desire, and love, not just external behavior.
The core of the concept is:
The gospel is not about making bad people try to get better.
But it gives the spiritual dead a new life in Christ.
(The good works of man belong to man, not from the earth of heaven, to be born again, and to see the earth of heaven: for the earth of heaven hath the law to learn the truth, and to do it).
- Application to Current Saint Life
In the last days when the message of three angels was preaching throughout the world, God called a population that reflected his nature, not just by doctrine, but by real new experiences.
Preparing for Christ's return is not the accumulation of outward goodness, but rather the allowing of the Holy Spirit to transform us into His likeness.
When a new heart arises:
Holding the Sabbath will be a pleasure, not a burden.
Obedience will be the result of love.
Good deeds will flow out of the life connected to Christ.
This is a population that truly "keeps the commandments of God and has faith in Jesus."
- A tangible decision today.
Today God is saying,
"I will give you a new heart."
The question is... are we ready to give His old heart?
It's not just asking Him to help improve certain habits.
But give up your whole life, your motives, your secrets.
A new heart begins with submission.
And grow by daily relationship with Christ.

Father, 🙏
Please take the stone out of my life.
Create a new heart that really loves Him.
May my goodness
It is the result of a connection with Christ.
Prepare me.
Was part of the honest population in the latter days.
