Building a business brought us closer
From pool decks, work trips, laptops in between and learning media from the online space…
we slowly realised we’re not just raising kids together anymore.
We’re slowly building something meaningful together too
And somehow…
confidence, business and relationships all grow the same way
Maybe love isn’t only found in big moments… but in slowly building life together every day
Starting a family business brought unexpected rewards beyond financial gains. Like many working parents, my spouse and I initially juggled responsibilities between caring for our children and managing work obligations. We found our connection deepening not through grand gestures but in the quiet, consistent effort of building something meaningful together each day. One of the biggest lessons we learned was how confidence, both in business and personal life, develops gradually—much like learning a new skill such as swimming. There were moments filled with doubt and postpartum chaos, but leaning on each other and focusing on shared goals made us stronger as partners and parents. Our journey also echoed the advice seen in swim instruction: listen, look, think, swim, and have fun. Applying this mindset helped us tackle challenges while keeping the experience enjoyable. Using online resources and educational media boosted our business knowledge and skills, allowing us to adapt and grow in a fast-changing digital landscape. Meeting inspiring figures, like one of the minds behind Pokémon GO, reminded us that even revolutionary ideas have humble beginnings and require persistence behind the scenes. This process deepened our appreciation for teamwork—the importance of skill, engagement, and aspiration (S.E.A.) in both family and business life. Balancing motherhood, work trips, and business development wasn’t easy, but it created a space for us to appreciate the small moments of progress and celebrate our joint achievements. For parents considering starting a family business, the key is to embrace the journey as a shared adventure, understanding that love, confidence, and success often flourish through steady, intentional effort rather than instant results. This experience not only strengthened our relationship but also enriched our family life, reminding us that building something together is itself a profound act of love and growth.
