Bday Dinner @ One Michelin Star Restaurant

Decided to bring my parents to dine in here for my birthday this year. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive. The ambience and décor were beautifully done, creating a very pleasant dining environment.

In terms of the food, some dishes leaned slightly on the saltier side. If you prefer lighter flavours, it might be a good idea to request less salt when placing your order.

My favourite dish of the night was surprisingly the truffle mushroom “nai bai” vegetable. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly! I believe they were grilled but yet they remained incredibly juicy and fragrant.

Another must-order is the Foie Gras Chawanmushi with Crab Roe Soup. It was rich, flavourful and absolutely delicious.

For dessert, we had the complimentary Equatorial Dark 55% Valrhona Chocolate Cake with 10-year-old Hua Diao wine, and it was amazing! The cake was creamy and indulgent, and the homemade almond ice cream paired beautifully with the intense dark chocolate mousse-like cake. It was definitely the perfect way to end the meal.

That said, I would probably skip the dry Dan Dan noodles and the scorched rice with crabmeat and crab roe in a claypot, as they were not particularly impressive in my opinion. Overall though, it was still a lovely dining experience.

Don’t forget to request a complimentary parking coupon when you dine there.

... Read moreDining at a Michelin-starred restaurant like Shisen Hanten is truly a special occasion, especially when celebrating a milestone like a birthday with family. One of the highlights of my dining experience was discovering the truffle mushroom nai bai vegetable dish. The way the mushrooms were grilled to retain their juiciness and fragrance was exceptional; it reminded me of how skilled chefs carefully balance heat and timing to achieve the perfect texture and flavor. If you’re like me and appreciate umami-rich dishes, I highly recommend requesting this dish. Another standout was the Foie Gras Chawanmushi with Crab Roe Soup, which offered a luxurious blend of flavors that felt indulgent yet comforting. The richness of the foie gras paired beautifully with the delicate sweetness of the crab roe, creating a harmonious taste profile. For those who enjoy a multi-dimensional palate experience, this dish is a must-try. When it comes to desserts, the complimentary Equatorial Dark 55% Valrhona Chocolate Cake paired with 10-year-old Hua Diao wine and homemade almond ice cream was unforgettable. The cake’s creamy, mousse-like texture combined with the robust depth of the dark chocolate offered a perfect finale to the meal. Pairing fine chocolates with aged wine elevates the flavors even further – a tip I’ve learned from past dining adventures. A practical piece of advice for future visitors is to ask for a complimentary parking coupon, which adds convenience to an already delightful dining experience. While some dishes such as the dry Dan Dan noodles may not suit everyone’s taste, the overall experience is enriched by the attentive service and elegant atmosphere. Remember to express any preference for lighter seasoning to ensure your meal matches your palate perfectly. Sharing a birthday dinner at a Michelin-starred venue like Shisen Hanten not only creates joyful memories but also offers insight into the art of Chinese haute cuisine crafted with heartfelt precision.
