Top Biopics for Every History Buff

1. the DIG, 2021

⭐️Rate: 8/10

🎬Review: Honestly, I landed on the film last night, browsing titles on Netflix, because of Lily James - having known nothing else about the film from before (I usually skip trailers these days), but that she was in the cast was a huge draw for me - and found immense pleasure in this gem of a film. From Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes to Ben Chaplin and Arechie Barnes, the performances are all first-rate. The real-life story is told with great finesse, and filmed earnestly with a keen eye for production details. I have to say, even some of the lesser momentss from the film shall stay with me for long, its appeal is that strong

2. THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7, 2020

⭐️Rate: 8/10

🎬Review: Legal historians and courtroom drama fans will have a ficeld day with this Aaron Sorkin film which depicts the trial of eight radical protesters who made a name for themselves in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. A disparate array of left-wing adtivists who took it upon themselves to demand an end to the Vietnam War instead became involved in the ghastly legal aftermath of the riots and thus faced criminal charges for allegedly instigating the violence This film portrays the sham trial that took place. Jospeh Gordon-Levitt, who has not been in anything good for a long time, isolid as the lead federal prosecutor who reluctantly takes on the assignment of trying to put the radical protesters behind bars. Mark Rylance's modest, down-to-earth demeanor malkes him a rather peculiar fit to portray defense attorney William Kuntsler, the famous defense attorney welknown for his outspoken courtroom oratory and publicity hound antics. Frank Langella is flawless as Julius Hoffman, the judge who presided over this trial and whose combustible tempenuous mental faculties made him a ready target for ridicule from many, ircluding those involved in the case. Edie Redmayne is excellent as Tom Hayden, the mopre pragmatic but equally passionate protester and defendant. Sacha Baron Cohen and Jeremy Strong are both sttellar as defendants Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin, respectively. Finally, Yahya Abdul Mateen lis eloquent as Bobby Seale, a Black Panther Party co-founder and the lone African-Amerrican defendant in the case. Highly recommended to all.

3. OUTLAW KING, 2018

⭐️Rate: 7/10

🎬Review: Outlaw King is one of the most visually breathtaking films of 2018, the cimatography, the set pieces, costume designs, are absolutely perfect. The story, based of a truevent, is very engaging, and the film does a great job at making you route for Robert Bruce. However, the film feels like it should have been longer, which makes me believe that it should have been a mini series instead. The period in which this film takes place, was a major evein Scottish history, and they crammed it all within a 2 hour movie. Some of it works, and someof it doesn't

The actors are all fantastic, Chris Pine was great as the EBruce, although I would have preferred Gerard Butler in the role, Pine gave a very convincing performance. Most of the other characters are very bland, and you don't get much time to spend with them, asthey just stand in the

background and do some cool stuff. Aaron Taylor Johnson howeveer was the highlight of the film, and I wish we got to see more of him. He was insanely ertertaining here, as a savage lunatic eager to avenge his family.

Some reviews I have read have pointed out that the English are portrayed in a very negative manner, which is true. They are made to be evil in this film, burningcastles, and slaughtering innocent people, but this film is as historically accurate aas possible, and these events most likely took place. But like I said before, everything is crammed together quicklythey had made a mini series they could have showed more of the story.

The action scenes are brilliant in the Outlaw King, and you can tell that most of it was inspired by Braveheart, from the gore, to the realism. However I feel the movieput style over story and characters. I would watch it just for its visuals alone.

The Outlaw King will disappoint fans wanting a new Braveheart, but history buffs, or hardcore movie goers will love this film for what it is, a good pieceof entertaining visuals and action.

4. Blonde, 2022

⭐️Rate: 5/10

🎬Review: If you're going to fictionalize the life of one of the movie icons of the century why go there to the darkest dark. There are some "invented" moments that are, quite frakly, unforgivable. What kept me glued to the screen was Ana de Armas. A treme!indous show of talent and fearlessness. was wondering what the experience would have been towatch it in a theater with other people? I don't know because in the privacy of my own home I was free to stand up arnd walk away to pour myself a drink and shout at the screen. The awful Kennedy episode for instnce. Why? That episode in particular made me question the intention of the filmmaakers. So, yes, I can say now that I've seen it. Loved some it and detested some it.
