February Reading Recap

📚 Favorite Reads 📚

1. The Hate U Give : I zoomed through this book. I couldn’t put it down - reading in my spare time, taking it to work, talking to my friends about it. The characters had realistic struggles, the writing was strong, and this book made me feel all sorts of emotions.

2. China Rich Girlfriend : Unpopular opinion, I liked this book more than Crazy Rich Asians. I had a feel for the characters, I knew who was related to who, and the new storyline was still a dramatic dumpster fire that I loved watching unfold from the first book.

3. The Poppy War: A heavy book that took me time to get through. It covers heavy topics, the horrors of war, loss of friends, being a woman through a war zone. Super excited to start on book two, just want to be in a good headspace first.

🎶 Poetry 🎶

Nocturnal: Really enjoyed the themes of this book. It was easy to read a poem or two on breaks, taking my time to get through this.

The Sun and Her Flowers: I consumed this so quickly. Some poems are longer and others are a few lines. It felt like a good mix. Loved the artwork in this book too.

🗒️Recommended Because…🗒️

Queen Song: The story jumps around a lot, but it helped me make the choice of continuing the series. It answered the questions of: can this writer create a compelling character?, are the relationships believable?, and do I care about this world at all? It’s something I’ll continue, just later on.

Frankenstein: One of my reading goals this year was to read a few more classics. I’m happy that I started with this one. It wasn’t what I initially thought, this was science fiction rather than horror, but I was pleasantly surprised.

... Read moreHey bookworms! Since we're all about sharing our reading journeys, I wanted to dive a little deeper into why I love doing a February reading recap and how you can make your own monthly check-ins even more rewarding. For me, a book recap isn't just about listing titles; it's a chance to reflect on what stories truly resonated and why. It helps me track my reading habits, celebrate my literary wins, and even identify new genres or authors I want to explore further in the coming months. February can be a tricky reading month – it's short, often busy, and sometimes we just need a cozy escape. That's why I often find myself gravitating towards diverse genres, just like this past month! When I pick my "Favorite Reads," I'm really thinking about the books that kept me up past my bedtime or had me sneaking in pages during every spare moment. Books like The Hate U Give aren't just stories; they spark conversations and leave a lasting impact. If you're looking for something that will truly make you feel and challenge your perspective, adding a powerful contemporary YA novel to your list is always a good move. These are the books that stick with you long after you've turned the last page. And then there's poetry! Some people find it intimidating, but I've found that including collections like Nocturnal or The Sun and Her Flowers in my February book recap adds a beautiful rhythm to my reading. They're perfect for dipping in and out of, offering little bursts of beauty or reflection when you need a break from a longer narrative. Poetry can be a fantastic way to stretch your reading muscles in a different direction without committing to a massive tome. If you've never tried poetry, I highly recommend starting with something accessible and visually appealing – you might find your new favorite way to read! One of my reading goals this year was to explore more classics, and I was so glad Frankenstein made it into my "Recommended Because..." section. It totally challenged my preconceived notions and proved that "classics" don't always mean stuffy or old-fashioned. Don't be afraid to pick up a classic that piques your interest; you might be surprised by how relevant and engaging they still are! Sometimes, these older stories offer insights into timeless human experiences that feel incredibly fresh. For those heavier reads, like *The Poppy War*, I've learned it's okay to take your time. There's no rush to finish a book that deals with intense themes like the horrors of war. Sometimes, stepping away and coming back with a clear head makes the experience even more profound. It's all part of the journey when doing a february recap of your reads! Remember, reading should be enjoyable, not a race. What about you? How do you approach your monthly reading? Do you have specific goals, or do you let your mood guide your next pick? I'd love to hear your thoughts and what made it into your own february book recap! Share your favorite reads or any unexpected discoveries from the shortest month. Happy reading until next time!
