Completed Duology - A Must Read

⭐️Overall rating: 5/5

Summary:

With tragedy in their face, Sarai and Lazlo cannot return to who they were, but they are determined to find a future together. With difficult choices around them: saving those we love or saving everyone else, what to do with the citadel, where to go from there, everybody is taking various sides and learning more about their powers. This is a story of love and loss, redemption and revenge, and what it means to be a god.

💭 Thoughts:

Truly, what a beautifully crafted story. This book had me on the edge of my seat, laughing, in suspense, holding my breath, just feeling all the emotions. There are very few duologies that make me want to read more in their world, but this book did it. This will be a book I won’t shut up about for a long time, I’m letting it live rent free in my mind and that’s okay.

... Read moreYou know, sometimes a full-blown series feels a bit daunting, right? That's where duologies come in, and honestly, they're often the perfect sweet spot! A duology, simply put, is a story told across two books. It’s enough space to build an intricate world and develop complex characters, but not so long that you lose the plot or commitment. For me, they offer a deeply satisfying, complete arc without the multi-year wait of a longer series. This format is absolutely shining in the fantasy and romantasy genres, giving us those epic 'love and loss' journeys without stretching them thin. Speaking of which, Laini Taylor's Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares is a prime example of a completed YA fantasy duology that absolutely nails it. The original review perfectly captures the emotional rollercoaster and the sheer beauty of Sarai and Lazlo's story. It truly explores the aftermath of conflict, delving into 'post-war lives, romance, and family bonds' with such grace. Finishing *Muse of Nightmares*, I felt that profound sense of completion, yet still longed for more of their world—a sign of truly brilliant storytelling! It’s a testament to how a duology can pack such an emotional punch, offering 'redemption and revenge' alongside a powerful love story. If you're like me and constantly searching for more completed fantasy duologies or 'duet romance books' that leave a lasting impression, you're in luck! For fans who enjoyed the unique blend of fantasy and romance or are just craving 'best completed romantasy series', here are a few other completed duologies I've personally loved that offer fantastic, self-contained journeys: The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski (The Winner's Crime, The Winner's Kiss): This is a brilliant completed fantasy duology that delivers political intrigue, forbidden romance, and incredible character development. Kestrel and Arin's story is heartbreakingly beautiful and remarkably well-contained within these two books. It's a bit more on the political fantasy side, but the romance is absolutely central and deeply affecting. Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo (Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom): While set in a larger Grishaverse, the Six of Crows story arc itself is a perfectly concluded duology. If you love a good heist, found family, and complex characters with simmering romance, this 'YA fantasy duology' is a must-read. It's dark, gritty, and incredibly clever, fulfilling that desire for 'duology books' that deliver high stakes and brilliant strategy. The Firebird Cycle by Claudia J. Dawson (The Firebird's Daughter, The Dragon's Price): This 'duet romance book' is a lesser-known gem but a fantastic completed fantasy duology. It blends Slavic folklore with a compelling story of duty, destiny, and a slow-burn romance. If you're looking for something with rich atmosphere and a unique magic system that feels complete in two volumes, give this one a try! These are just a few to get you started, but they all share that wonderful quality of being complete, compelling, and utterly immersive. Happy reading, fellow bookworms! Let me know if you pick any of these up!

one of the best YA fantasies I’ve read 👏🏼
I can’t even begin to tell you how much of a chokehold this story had on me when I was reading it. Not only was it paced well, but the political intrigue was very understandable, the fight scenes were written amazingly, and the love interests (YES there’s more than one!) are really great characters
