You know I love my standing exercises, haha! The greatest thing about standing core is its crunch free, perfect for the guys and gals that don’t wait to strain their necks, and want to practice form!

Exercise 1: knee lift

Pull belly in tight as you lift knee to chest

Exhale to lift

Exercise 2: lateral reach

Keep feet planted into ground, core tight.

Exercise 3: lateral taps

Keep core tight, feet planted into ground. Reach with your side obliques. Add weight to make this exercise more difficult.

When I first started my journey to a stronger, smaller-looking midsection, I thought I had to be on the floor doing endless crunches. Boy, was I wrong! The beauty of a standing core workout at home is how incredibly functional it is. Think about it: we spend most of our day standing or moving upright. Training our core in this position directly translates to better posture, improved balance, and less back pain – all while helping to sculpt those obliques and cinch in your waist. Plus, no more neck strain from crunches! It’s been a total game-changer for me. To really maximize these exercises and target those stubborn areas like 'love handles,' here are a few more tips and tricks I've learned along the way: Before You Start: A Quick Warm-Up! Even though it's a core workout, a light warm-up is key. I usually do some gentle torso twists, arm circles, and marching in place for about 5 minutes. This gets the blood flowing and prepares your muscles. Deep Dive into the Moves: Alt Knee Lift: This isn't just about lifting your knee; it's about connecting with your deep core. *My tip:* As you lift your knee towards your chest, imagine pulling your belly button towards your spine. Exhale sharply as you lift. Really focus on crunching your core, not just using hip flexors. If you want to make it harder, try holding the knee up for a count of two before releasing. Lateral Reach: This one is fantastic for those side obliques, which are crucial for defining your waistline and tackling 'love handles'. *My tip:* Keep your hips stable and try not to lean forward or backward. The movement should come purely from your side. Really feel the stretch on one side and the contraction on the other. For an extra burn, I sometimes hold a light dumbbell in the reaching hand, but only if my form is perfect! Lateral Taps: Similar to the reach, but with more dynamic movement. *My tip:* Think about reaching down and across your body, almost like you're trying to tap something just beyond your foot. This engages your obliques even more. The key is to keep your core engaged throughout – don't let your torso flop around. If adding weight, start super light – a water bottle or a small hand weight is enough to increase intensity. Consistency is Your Best Friend for a Small Waist: I try to do this routine 3-4 times a week. It’s short enough that I can fit it into my busy schedule. Remember, seeing results, especially for a 'small waist workout at home', takes time and consistency. Don't get discouraged if you don't see changes overnight. Trust the process! Beyond the Workout: While these standing exercises for love handles and waist shaping are amazing, remember that nutrition plays a huge role too.
