DITL OF A NURSING STUDENT 10/30
Being a nursing student is a whirlwind of classes, clinicals, and constant studying. My day, much like the one you saw, is a constant juggle! I've learned that having a system in place is key to not just surviving, but thriving. Here are some of my go-to strategies for navigating the demands of nursing school, keeping my health in check, and actually enjoying the journey. First off, scheduling is my best friend. I literally block out time for everything – from "heading to the gym" to specific study blocks for my "Maternal Exam." It might sound rigid, but it ensures I dedicate enough time to each priority. Without a plan, it’s easy for one area to completely overshadow the others. I often find myself "eating & studying" during these blocks, making the most of every minute. Speaking of the gym, it’s non-negotiable for me. My "FULL BODY WEDNESDAY" isn't just about fitness; it's a massive stress reliever. When I’m lifting or doing cardio, it's the only time my brain isn't worrying about pathophysiology or pharmacology. I’ve noticed that when I regularly make time for physical activity, my focus in class and during study sessions is so much sharper. And honestly, after a tough workout, spending some time in the "sauna" is pure bliss – it helps with muscle recovery and gives me a few minutes of quiet reflection. For those intense study periods, especially for something as critical as a "Maternal Exam," I rely on active recall and practice questions. Just reading notes isn't enough for me. I try to explain concepts out loud or teach them to a study buddy. That's why having friends like Val for "end of study session selfies" is great; we motivate each other and can quiz one another. Breaking down large topics into smaller, manageable chunks also prevents overwhelm. And let's talk about fuel! When you're always on the go, quick and nutritious meals are essential. I'm a huge fan of "getting chipotleeeee" because it’s fast, customizable, and I can load up on veggies and protein. While convenient, I also try to meal prep some healthy snacks like fruit, nuts, or homemade protein bites to avoid relying solely on takeout. Staying nourished keeps my energy levels up during long lectures and late-night study sessions. Finally, don't underestimate the power of small self-care rituals. Even something as simple as taking a moment to "do my edges" or "finish my hair" in the morning can make a huge difference in how I feel about starting the day. These tiny acts of self-attention help me feel a bit more put-together and ready to tackle whatever nursing school throws my way. It’s all about finding those little pockets of joy and routine that keep you grounded amidst the chaos. Remember, taking care of yourself isn't selfish; it's essential for being the best future nurse you can be!
