Shots from the quieter side of Fukuoka ✨

KumamotoAso – Yufuin edition 🇯🇵

When people visit Fukuoka, most stick to the city. But some of the most beautiful places I saw were just a short trip away.

Here are some moments from exploring the slower side of Kyushu:

📍 Kumamoto

Peaceful gardens, reflective ponds, and autumn colors everywhere. Walking here felt like stepping into a painting.

If you are someone that really likes nature, Kumamoto is the place for you. Really serene and quiet town!

📍 Aso

One of the most surreal landscapes I’ve seen in Japan. Endless grasslands, wild horses, and mountains that make you feel tiny.

I absolutely LOOOOOVEEE mountains, so this area was truly breathtaking to me!

📍 Yufuin

A cozy little town surrounded by nature, hot springs, and cute cafés. Perfect place to slow down and wander.

This is where we found the little studio ghibli town with the cutest snoopy store + cafe!! Loved the novelty of this place but it was abit crowded.

Things I loved about this trip:

🍁 Autumn leaves everywhere (Went early- mid November)

🌿 Quiet nature walks

🍜 Small local food stalls at night

♨️ Relaxing onsen towns (Most of my hotels had onsens!)

📸 So many photo spots

If you're visiting Fukuoka and want something beyond the usual city itinerary, these spots are definitely worth the trip.

Sometimes the best travel memories come from the places fewer people talk about.

... Read moreDuring my trip to the quieter side of Fukuoka, I found that venturing beyond the bustling city streets revealed some of the most memorable experiences of my Japan travels. Each destination offered something unique that deeply resonated with my love for nature and slower-paced exploration. In Kumamoto, the peaceful gardens and the vivid autumn colors made every stroll feel like walking through an exquisite painting. What stood out to me was how well-preserved the natural scenery was, offering not only beauty but also a deep sense of calm that’s hard to find in big cities. From the reflection pools to the soft rustling of leaves, it felt like nature and calm coexisted perfectly here. Mount Aso was an absolute highlight. The vast grasslands stretching endlessly, the gentle wild horses roaming freely, and the towering mountains created a surreal panorama. For someone who adores mountainous landscapes, this place was a dream come true. It’s humbling and awe-inspiring to stand amidst such raw natural power and beauty, and a reminder of how vast and diverse Japan’s landscape truly is. Yufuin felt like stepping into a storybook with its cozy streets, surrounded by nature, hot springs, and quaint cafes. The enthusiasm of finding a Studio Ghibli-like town and a fun Snoopy store added a nostalgic charm. Despite the crowds, the atmosphere remained welcoming and relaxing. The onsen experiences here were rejuvenating after days of travel and exploring. I traveled in mid-November and was lucky to witness the stunning autumn leaves that painted every corner in warm hues. The local food stalls at night offered delicious treats, perfect after a day in nature. The combination of quiet walks, warm hospitality, and photogenic spots made this trip unforgettable. If you’re planning to visit Fukuoka, consider these nearby gems for a trip that dives deeper into Kyushu’s scenic and cultural richness. Sometimes, the quieter, less talked-about places offer the best memories and a unique perspective of Japan’s natural and cultural treasures.

Fukuoka Zoo, not your typical zoo 🦓
First thing that shocked me, the ticket is so cheap, and it even includes entry to the botanical garden next door. One ticket, double the nature 🌳✨ Even though I went on a weekend, it wasn’t crowded at all. The botanical garden especially felt super relaxing, lots of greenery, quiet paths, and p

Tucked away from the busy streets, this place feels like a little escape back in time… A 300-year old teahouse in a quiet and calming place, the kind of place you just want to sit, slow down, and breathe. Spent some time here enjoying a proper matcha experience, and wow… the tea was SO good I’m
