loc journey ✨🫶🏾

... Read moreWow, I can't believe it's already been 10 months locked on this incredible loc journey! Getting a fresh retwist got me excited all over again, and I wanted to share a deeper dive into what I've learned, focusing on maintenance and some versatile styling tips for my fellow Black women rocking locs. Starting my coil locs felt like a huge step, and seeing the 'before and after' transformation is truly rewarding. I remember the initial days, patiently waiting for the coils to bud and mature. It’s amazing how much they’ve grown and taken on their own unique character. The early stages came with a lot of questions about frizz and how to keep them neat, but I quickly learned to embrace the journey and the natural evolution of locs. My advice for anyone just starting out is to take plenty of pictures – you’ll love looking back at your progress! Each fresh retwist feels like a significant milestone. Not only does it make my locs look incredibly neat and polished, but it also gives me a chance to really appreciate their length and health. I typically opt for a palm roll method, as I find it helps maintain the integrity of my individual locs. After my retwist, I pay extra attention to moisturizing my scalp with a light oil and protecting my edges, sometimes using a silk scarf to prevent tension or breakage. This period is also perfect for trying new styles, as the fresh foundation holds them beautifully. For those looking for Black women loc styles around the 10-month mark, don't underestimate the versatility! Even at this length, you can do so much. My go-to quick styles include pulling the front sections back into a small bun or using bobby pins to create a cute side-swept look. Two-strand twists are fantastic; they offer a neat appearance and, when unraveled after a few days, leave behind gorgeous wavy patterns. For a more sophisticated vibe, I often gather my locs into a high ponytail or a simple half-up, half-down style, sometimes adorned with a stylish loc cuff or bead. Headwraps are also absolute lifesavers for those days when you want a quick, elegant style without much fuss, while protecting your locs. Maintaining healthy coil locs is paramount. My routine includes misting my locs daily with a DIY rosewater and glycerin mix to keep them hydrated, and I regularly apply a light, natural oil blend (like jojoba or argan oil) to my scalp and locs to prevent dryness without causing heavy buildup. Regular washing with a residue-free shampoo is essential, followed by thorough drying to prevent any musty odors or mildew. Patience is truly a virtue on this journey – trust the process, enjoy every stage of your loc transformation, and don't be afraid to experiment with different styles as your locs grow and mature. What are your favorite loc products or styling hacks?

So, believe it or not… this is my SECOND loc journey! I had locs before for about 2 years but wasn’t satisfied with my loc parting and sizing etc plus I developed a scalp issue that I had to get under control. So I combed all 60 something of my locs out! It took almost 2 weeks to do that!!
