THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

•Is 𝐒𝐭. 𝐌𝐚𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐧 on your 𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭?

If not, you’ll definitely want to add it after watching/reading this!

@vacationstmaarten and Saint Martin are actually the same island, just divided between two different countries.

The northern side is the French territory of Saint Martin, while the southern side is the Dutch territory of Sint Maarten. 🇫🇷🇳🇱

On the French side, you’ll find chic boutiques, Creole cuisine, and that je ne sais quoi European flair. And on the Dutch side, you’ll discover lively beach bars, vibrant street art, and that signature Caribbean energy. 🌴

No matter which side you explore, the island is an absolute vibe. 🙌🏾

From the stunning beaches to the friendly locals, there’s so much to love.

So if you’re looking for your next Caribbean getaway, consider this dual-nation island.

Whether you’re team Sint Maarten or team Saint Martin, I guarantee you’ll have the time of your life✨

Sint Maarten
2024/5/21 Edited to

... Read moreBeyond just knowing about the Dutch and French sides, there's so much more to discover about visiting Sint Maarten/Saint Martin to make your trip truly unforgettable! I wanted to share a few more things to know before you go based on my own experience, helping you plan the perfect St. Maarten travel adventure. When's the best time to visit St. Maarten? Honestly, it depends on what you're looking for! The peak season is typically from December to May, with less humidity and lower chances of rain – perfect for beach lovers and those wanting to avoid the heat. However, if you're looking for more affordable flights and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of May-June or November can be fantastic. Just be aware that hurricane season runs from June to November, so travel insurance is a good idea if you're visiting then. I personally found late spring to be lovely, avoiding the busiest crowds but still enjoying great weather for all the outdoor activities. One question I always ask myself before a trip is, 'what to wear in St. Maarten?' My advice: think lightweight, breathable, and comfortable! For daytime, swimsuits, cover-ups, shorts, and light dresses are your best friends. Don't forget a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and plenty of reef-safe sunscreen. Evenings can be a bit dressier, especially on the French side or if you're dining at a nice restaurant – think smart casual, like linen pants or a nice sundress. Definitely pack comfy sandals, but also a pair of dressier ones for those special evenings. And a light rain jacket or umbrella is always a smart idea, just in case of a sudden tropical shower that passes as quickly as it arrives! Speaking of rain, what if you encounter a rainy day in St. Maarten? Don't let it dampen your spirits! There are still plenty of things to do when it rains at St. Maarten. You could visit the Yoda Guy Movie Exhibit in Philipsburg, explore the various art galleries, or indulge in some duty-free shopping. Many resorts have indoor activities or spas perfect for a relaxed day. My favorite rainy-day hack was heading to a cozy beach bar with a covered patio, enjoying a local rum punch, and watching the rain over the ocean – surprisingly relaxing! Or, it's the perfect excuse for a long, leisurely meal exploring the incredible Creole cuisine on the French side, like in Grand Case. A common concern for many travelers is, 'is St. Maarten safe?' From my experience, yes, it generally feels very safe for tourists. Like any travel destination, it's important to be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. I always recommend using reputable taxis, not walking alone in dimly lit areas, and keeping valuables out of sight. The locals are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which really adds to the sense of security. Just exercise common sense, and you'll have a wonderful, worry-free time exploring this beautiful island. Beyond the beautiful beaches, take a moment to soak in the vibrant St. Martin culture. From the lively rhythms of zouk music to the tantalizing flavors of local street food like Johnnycakes and fresh seafood, there's so much to experience. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with a local; you'll often discover the best hidden gems and get a true feel for the island's unique charm, making your St. Maarten travel guide a truly personal one. Hopefully, these extra tips help you feel even more prepared for your St. Maarten/Saint Martin adventure! It's truly a unique island with so much to offer, and I can't wait for you to experience it.
