Hey fellow travelers! If you're dreaming of a Caribbean adventure, Sint Maarten should definitely be on your list. I recently visited, and let me tell you, there are some key things to know before visiting Sint Maarten to make your trip absolutely perfect. I'm excited to share my personal recommendations and hacks with you! First off, let's talk transportation. I can't stress enough how much a reliable driver makes a difference. My experience with @foreveryoungtaxi was fantastic – they were always on time, incredibly friendly, and knew all the best routes, even for hidden gems. They were so professional and prompt, truly taking the stress out of getting around. They even helped me with excursion suggestions! As a pro tip I learned, especially during peak season, locking in your excursions early is a game-changer. Not only do you skip the crowds, but you also get your pick of the best tours. Think catamaran trips to Pinel Island, snorkeling adventures at Creole Rock, or exploring the famous Maho Beach to watch planes land right over your head. Booking these in advance ensures you get the most out of your visit. Speaking of food, Reville was an absolute breakfast revelation! Located on the Dutch side, their fresh pastries, delicious coffee, and amazing brunch options were the perfect start to my day. It's truly a must-try, but remember they close at 3 PM daily, so plan accordingly! Beyond breakfast, Sint Maarten offers a vibrant culinary scene. Don't be afraid to try some local seafood shacks for fresh catches or explore the French side (St. Martin) for some exquisite French-Caribbean fusion. I discovered some fantastic spots just by asking locals for their favorites. My Airbnb experience was truly exceptional. It was incredibly spacious, with multiple rooms and bathrooms, which was perfect for our group. The amazing views from the balcony, overlooking the turquoise waters, were simply breathtaking. It was centrally located yet tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, offering both convenience and peace. When looking for your own stay, consider if you prefer the bustling Dutch side or the more tranquil French side. Always check reviews for cleanliness, host responsiveness, and proximity to attractions you want to visit. A good location can save you a lot on transportation costs and commute time! For those looking for an extra adventure, visiting Anguilla from Sint Maarten is a fantastic day trip! You can easily catch a ferry from Marigot on the French side, which takes about 20-25 minutes. It's a smooth ride, and once you arrive, you'll be greeted by some of the most pristine beaches you've ever seen, like Shoal Bay East. Remember to bring your passport as it's a separate territory! Finally, a few general travel hacks for your Sint Maarten vacation: The official currency on the Dutch side is the Antillean Guilder (ANG), but US dollars are widely accepted everywhere, often preferred. On the French side, it's the Euro. While Dutch and French are official, English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas, so communication is rarely an issue. Like any travel destination, common sense applies regarding safety; be aware of your surroundings and safeguard your valuables. Don't forget reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, comfortable sandals, and a reusable water bottle. And of course, your camera to capture all those amazing Caribbean vibes! Enjoy your trip!
