My son has been obsessed with his dogs since he was 4 months old. In fact, the first time he ever laughed (4 months old) was when I was playing fetch with our dog. He is extremely smart and I give a lot of that credit to our dogs. He calls them with that little kissy sound. If he is upset we call the dog over and he is immediately happy. We have gave him the responsibility of feeding the dogs breakfast and dinner, let's just say he does it by himself randomly because he loves it so much. If you look at the last photo, I checked the monitor during nap time and saw that one of our dogs had jumped in his bed. He invites the dogs into his bed every time he wakes up so I know he invited the dog in his bed before he fell asleep that day. One of our dogs refuses to sleep anywhere, but on the floor next to his bed. Our dogs are amazing with our kids!! They truly are best friends❤️❤️

... Read moreWhen we first welcomed our son into our family, I always envisioned him growing up with our dogs, but I never fully grasped the incredible protective instincts they would develop. It’s not just about the fun playtime or the occasional cuddles; it’s a deep, silent guardianship that truly warms my heart and adds an invaluable layer to our family life. I've noticed countless subtle ways our dogs act as natural protectors. They're always on alert, quick to bark at any unusual noises outside our home, giving me peace of mind and acting as our very own early warning system. More personally, I've observed them instinctively positioning themselves between my baby and a wobbly toddler, or even a new person entering the room. It’s a quiet, inherent action, but it speaks volumes about their loyalty. Just like that moment captured on the baby monitor, one of our dogs had managed to get into his bed. My first thought was concern, but then I watched as the dog simply lay there, a watchful, comforting presence while my son slept. It wasn't about snuggling; it was about being present, a furry guardian on duty. Beyond physical alerts, their presence offers immense emotional security. My son knows they are always there for him. If he falls or gets startled, one of them is usually right by his side, nudging him gently with their nose. It’s like having a furry bodyguard who also doubles as an instant comforter. When he's upset, calling one of the dogs over works wonders – it’s instant calm, a unique comfort that only a loyal animal companion can provide. This isn't something we explicitly trained; it’s an innate bond that blossomed naturally. To foster this protective bond responsibly, we emphasize teaching our son to respect the dogs' space and signals. Involving him in their care, like feeding them breakfast and dinner (which he sometimes does without even being asked!), helps him understand their needs and appreciate their presence. This mutual respect is key to a harmonious household. We’ve always taught our dogs gentle interactions, and they’ve responded beautifully. Seeing them gently sniff his hand, just like in one of our photos, or lie patiently next to him while he plays, confirms the deep trust and affection they share. It's a continuous journey of teaching both child and dog how to coexist safely and lovingly. I believe this protective behavior stems from their deep-seated pack instinct. They perceive our children as integral members of their family, their pack, and naturally want to ensure their safety and well-being. It’s a beautiful, enriching dynamic that fills our home with love, laughter, and an incredible sense of security. Our dogs truly are the best friends and silent protectors our kids could ever ask for!
