Colleges to attend

Hey everyone! Senior year is officially here, and with it, the exhilarating (and slightly terrifying!) process of figuring out where to spend the next four years. Like many of you, I've been deep diving into research and narrowing down my options. It’s such a personal journey, and I wanted to share my own list of 'Colleges I plan to attend' to give you a peek into my thought process. Hopefully, it helps you as you start to build your own dream list! First up, my 'reach' schools – these are the ones where admission is highly competitive, but I'm shooting my shot! Columbia University is definitely at the top of that list. The idea of learning in New York City, surrounded by such diverse minds and opportunities, really excites me. Their core curriculum and emphasis on a broad education appeal to me. Then there's NYU, another incredible urban experience. I’m drawn to its vibrant campus life and amazing programs, especially in fields like humanities and arts. I know these are tough to get into, but you don't get anywhere if you don't try, right? Next, my 'target' schools. These are places where my academic profile generally aligns with accepted students, making admission a solid possibility. SUNY Binghamton University really stands out for its strong academics, particularly in STEM fields, and its beautiful campus environment. I’ve heard great things about their sense of community and the quality of teaching. Stony Brook University is another fantastic option. It's known for its research opportunities and proximity to the city, offering a great balance. I feel like I could really thrive academically and personally at both Binghamton and Stony Brook. And finally, my 'safety' school. This is a place where I'm very confident I'd be accepted, giving me peace of mind during this stressful application period. UAlbany is my top safety choice. It offers a wide range of programs, and I know I could get a quality education there. It's also a great public university option, which is important for my family and me. Having a solid safety school takes a lot of pressure off, knowing I'll have a great place to go no matter what. Now, after diving into my specific list, I want to share some general tips for anyone else starting to explore colleges. When you're thinking about 'colleges to attend,' don't just look at rankings. Think about what you want. What kind of environment suits you best? Do you prefer a big city or a more suburban/rural setting? What majors are you interested in? Researching programs, campus culture, and even student life is super important. Also, make sure to visit campuses if you can, even if it's just a virtual tour – it really helps you get a feel for the place. And remember to create your own balance of reach, target, and safety schools based on your academic profile. It makes the whole application process feel much more manageable. Don't be afraid to cast a wide net, but also be realistic. This journey is unique to each of us, and it's okay for your list to evolve! It's a lot to think about, but it's also an exciting time.
